Varifocal spectacles…trip hazard?

A lot of exhibitions have a theme, the last one I entered was “Performance”.
There are a couple in my diary later this year which are totally theme-free.
This always makes it hard for me to decide what to enter.
Obviously it’s going to be an animal but which?

Anyway, later today I am collecting some varifocal spectacles which will increase my lenses/spectacle count to six. Contacts lenses, reading glasses for when wearing contact lenses, distance glasses when no lenses, reading glasses when no lenses, drawing glasses when lenses (rarely used as I prefer to draw with no lenses and no glasses and my nose about two inches from the paper) and varifocals.

I have been very short-sighted since the age of ten. Bah!

Harper Lee, Tim Spector and a pot of tea

Ugh! It’s so overcast and dull today and quite muggy, too. Not a day which inspires me to draw. I want to put my feet up with a pot of tea and a book. I do have some research books which need reading and a large, huge, enormous pile of “To be Read” fiction. Hmmm…

I recently read Emma Donaghue’s Room. It’s a beautiful book, easy to read (it took me a day) and the little boy stole my heart. So perhaps another one-day-book would be good. At the weekend I bought Go Set a Watchman as To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my absolute favourites. I have read much about the reasons Harper Lee “hid” the sequel which has made me want to read it all the more and now I have it in my hands. So today, I think, will be a catch up day, Harper Lee and Tim Spector…a little fiction and a lot of fact.

(But you know I’ll draw…I just can’t help myself!)

Sarah Summers, Stinky Dog and Sauerkraut

Some years ago I quickly sketched an outline of Ralph, our stinky dog. This week, my mother sent a birthday card to my husband with this Sarah Summers drawing on the front Clearly this is the terrier pose!

Ralph Sketch

I love her drawing, a beautiful sketch with just enough detail. It’s a style I find difficult
as I often do not know when to stop, a problem from which
I’ve heard many artists suffer.

Today’s plan is housework (yes, I am a mere mortal and housework must be done), checking the sauerkraut I made yesterday (that’s the Domestic Goddess side of me) and then working on a drawing you cannot see yet as, again, it’s a gift for someone.
Have a picture of my sauerkraut instead!
